Dear Friends,
On this 11th day of the 11th month of the year 2011, I can't help but be grateful to all those who give their life to restore peace and freedom. Today, as Canada is getting ready to remember and honour its courageous men and women, I am retracing my own path to safety and freedom. I am grateful to the human traffickers who smuggled me and my father out of Tehran, I'm grateful to the Kurds who gave us refuge and fake passports. I'm grateful to the young boy with UZI who had appointed himself my father's personal bodyguard and kept pushing him inside the hut every time he heard a suspicious noise. Last, but not least I am grateful to the mule who, although stubbornly moving along the edge of the mountain, managed to literally "drop" me off on the soil of Turkey, shaken and bruised, but Khoda-ro-Shokr in one piece! It goes without saying that I am very grateful to be able to call Canada my home.
Have a peaceful day everyone!
